Citadel Outlets Invites World Travelers Grounded in SoCal to Travel the World

with North America’s Largest Sand Sculpture

“Landmarks of the World” Featuring Iconic Monuments Displayed July 1 through Labor Day

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 23, 2021) – Citadel Outlets, Los Angeles’ premier outlet shopping destination, is inviting visitors on a trip around the world this summer…right here in SoCal! Landmarks of the World, a sand sculpture showcasing some of the world’s most famous feats of architecture, such as the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, The Pyramids and The Colosseum, will be on display free of charge at Citadel Outlets’ Center Court starting July 1 through Labor Day, September 6.

Taking an anticipated 500 hours to construct, Landmarks of the World will stand 20 feet tall, 36 feet wide and weigh in at 350 tons. The massive sculpture will require 14 semi-truckloads of sand, which will then be skillfully sculpted by six of the Sand Sculpture Company’s talented artists, who are traveling to Los Angeles from various parts of the United States and Canada.

“This is by far one of the most remarkable displays we’ve ever hosted at Citadel Outlets,” said David Blagg, general manager, Citadel Outlets. “We are thrilled to partner with the Sand Sculpture Company, which holds eight Guinness World Records in sand sculpting, to create this display for our guests to enjoy this summer. Traveling the world is difficult for many reasons right now and we’re hoping once the final sculpture is completed, we will be able to transport shoppers to various travel destinations through this astonishing monument.”

Before visitors can enjoy the refined detail of Landmarks of the World in all its stunning grandeur, the foundation must be set. Wooden boxes holding machine-packed sand will be stacked in tiers like a wedding cake. It will solidify for about two weeks before the sculptors remove the top tiers to begin carving the landmarks, they’ll then work their way to the bottom to keep the structure stable. To finish the piece, artists will spray a sealant to ward off erosion and rain, keeping the sand art in pristine condition for shoppers to take in at Citadel Outlets.

Landmarks of the World, weighing in at 350 tons, will be the largest sand sculpture in North America in 2021,” said Ted Seibert, owner of the Sand Sculpture Company. “My team has put together some pretty epic masterpieces, but this massive structure is going to be one Southern California residents won’t soon forget. We know how hard it has been to stay home, without anywhere to go, and we’re hoping Citadel Outlets guests enjoy ‘traveling around the world’ as much has we enjoyed sculpting it!”

Citadel Outlets has also put together a one-of-a-kind coloring book that gives children the chance to follow Perry the Plane as he travels the world visiting the iconic monuments showcased within the Landmarks of the World sculpture. Additionally, there will be an interactive “scavenger hunt” using a self-guided map and landmark stickers given out at Customer Service. Once every landmark is spotted and checked off, the participant will receive a special treat.
